We celebrated all of our September birthdays Monday, and our beloved Jane Herren turned 103 September 11th. She recently celebrated this milestone with her family at the Naples Beach Hotel.
When Jane was born in 1916 in MA, times were tough for her family, and so they made their way south and eventually settled in Miami. She met and married Norman Herren in Miami just before the depression. In search of work, they moved to Everglades City in the 30’s when her husband got a job for Mr. Copeland, who was writing a book on the early explorers of Florida, and was in charge of the Barron Collier interests. When Mr. Copeland retired, Norman was appointed to fill his place. Jane raised her family in Everglades City and one of her great thrills was meeting Presidents Truman and Eisenhower. Jane was the tax collector and the head cook for the Lion’s Club events. When Hurricane Donna hit, the Herren’s moved to Naples. Jane lived at the Tower for 10 years and since has lived in Arbor Glen for the past 5 years.
It is a joy to know Jane!
